Several academics represented the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 700 at the 59th Annual Convention of the ISA in San Francisco this year. The SFB 700 showcased its key final publications in numerous panels, presentations and roundtables. During these sessions, a key final publication of the SFB 700 – ‘The Oxford Handbook of Governance and Limited Statehood’ edited by Thomas Risse, Tanja A. Börzel and Anke Draude – was presented. In a panel discussion organised especially for this purpose, entitled ‘Theoretical and Empirical Perspectives on Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood’, five chapters of the handbook were discussed by Amichai Magen (IDC Herzliya) and Jeffrey Checkel (Simon Fraser University) before a very interested audience.
However, the main event for SFB 700 at this year’s ISA was a reception on 4 April, held jointly with the Kolleg-Forschergruppe (KFG) ‘The Transformative Power of Europe’ and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA). Some 400 guests, including associated academics, friends of the three institutions and interested experts took part in the event. Following the welcoming addresses by spokesperson for the SFB 700, Thomas Risse, co-director of the KFG, Tanja A. Börzel, and Christian van Soest of GIGA, the guests were informed about the research and publications of the three institutions. The book tables of the SFB 700, presenting its work and research results, also attracted a great deal of interest from visitors.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who visited our events, as well as the KFG and GIGA for such a successful joint reception.
