Sven Chojnacki is Professor for Comparative Politics and Peace and Conflict Research at the Freie Universität Berlin. He received his PhD from the Freie Universität Berlin in 1999. From 1999-2005, he conducted his research at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB). His previous teaching experience includes the University of Hannover, the University of Leipzig and the University of Kiel.
He is coordinator of the project “Variances and Consequences of the Control of Violence by Nonstate Actors" at the Research Center 700 "Governance of Areas of Limited Statehood", funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
He is currently researching on various aspects of war and peace, including the dynamics and causal mechanisms of violent conflicts as well as the privatization of security in areas of limited statehood.
