Thomas Risse’s chapter (6) on the discursive construction of globalisation utilises a social constructivist perspective to expose the taken-for-grantedness of globalisation discourses, which emphasises the potential for political change rather than the inevitability of globalisation processes. His argument should find a sympathetic audience with many social, economic and political geographers who adopt a similarly critical stance.
